LAFAYETTE — Louisiana-Lafayette pitcher Gunner Leger added another All-America honor to his résumé Monday: He was one of 32 players recognized on D1Baseball.com’s freshman All-America teams.

The organization named Leger a second-team freshman All-American after he went 6-5 with a 2.99 ERA for the Cajuns this season.

Leger started the season in the bullpen but gradually ascended the ranks until he seized the Cajuns’ Friday night role midway through the season. By season’s end, he was a legitimate ace. He lasted seven innings or longer in six of his final eight starts, compiling a 2.35 ERA with 44 strikeouts against just five walks in those appearances.

Leger also was the Sun Belt Conference’s Freshman of the Year and was a Louisville Slugger freshman All-American along with teammate Dylan Moore.
