LAFAYETTE — Freshman forward Simone Fields recorded a team-high 17 points while sophomore guard Jaylyn Gordon added 12 points off the bench to help the University of Louisiana at Lafayette women’s basketball team defeat Spring Hill College 67-47 in an exhibition game Monday night at the Cajundome.

“I thought at times we played hard,” Cajuns coach Garry Brodhead said. “We still have some work to do on the defensive and offensive side, but I was pleased with our effort.”

Fields, who finished 8-of-9 from the floor, helped the Cajuns offense to 47 percent from the field. Robbie Brown also had a strong night for UL-Lafayette, totaling eight points and a team-high eight boards. Cienna Rodriguez came off the bench to lead the Cajuns with five assists.

“Simone is playing really well,” Brodhead said. “Last game she was 5-for-5, this game she was 8-for-9.“We know she can score. We feel that she finishes very well.”

The Cajuns controlled the paint, scoring 42 points inside while holding the Badgers to just 12. The Cajuns also held a 30-9 edge in points off turnovers and finished with an 11-1 advantage in steals.

The Cajuns begin the season Friday in Beaumont, Texas, as they face Lamar at 7 p.m.
