HAMMOND — The Southeastern Louisiana offense racked up nine touchdowns in the first scrimmage of fall camp Saturday night at Strawberry Stadium.
True freshmen accounted for six of the eight touchdowns in the scrimmage, which lasted just less than two hours.
All five Southeastern quarterbacks engineered at least one touchdown drive. Junior quarterback Donovan Isom rushed for a touchdown and connected with redshirt freshman Austin Mitchell for a 25-yard touchdown pass. Freshman Byron Walker threw touchdown passes to freshmen CJ Turner (72 yards) and Shyron White (29 yards).
Freshman running back Marcus Cooper rushed for three touchdowns for the Lions.
COLONELS GO OVER VARIETY OF SITUATIONS: In Thibodaux, Nicholls State held its first preseason scrimmage Saturday at John L. Guidry Stadium.
The scrimmage consisted of first-down, third-down and red-zone situations. Coach Tim Rebowe also put the team through special-teams drills, and the offense/defense took part in a handful of live drives.
Nicholls started with red-zone plays, and the offense found the end zone on the third play as quarterback Chase Fourcade ran up the middle for a 10-yard touchdown. For the rest of the session, the defense did not allow a play longer than 6 yards.
