WHAT THEY’RE BEST AT: A deep lineup provides power threats through the middle and lower parts of the order. The Cajuns lead the nation in home runs with 98 and homers per game at 1.96.

HOW THEY CAN ADVANCE: Get solid contributions from not only Stewart but also from the rest of the pitching staff. Stewart has logged 180 innings as the far-and-away leader.

FUN FACT: UL-Lafayette is the only university to have vermilion as an official color.

No. 2 TEXAS A&M

WHAT THEY’RE BEST AT: Doing damage offensively in a variety of ways. The Aggies have pop in a lineup that has 84 home runs. But Milligan, a freshman, is tied for second in the country with 52 stolen bases.

HOW THEY CAN ADVANCE: The pitching staff walked 205 batters, with Show registering 106. Avoiding putting runners on would help keep the Aggies away from big innings by the opposition.

FUN FACT: Lafayette Lumpkin Foster was president of Texas A&M from 1898-1901. He is buried on the A&M campus.

NO. 3 TEXAS

MASCOT: Longhorns

HOW THEY QUALIFIED: At-large

KEY PLAYERS: Lindsey Stephens (.401, 12 HRs, .796 slugging), Celina Felix (.370, 8 HRs, 39 RBIs, .586 slugging), Tiarra Davis (22-9, 1.72 ERA, 166 Ks), Paige von Sprecken (11-3, 2.78 ERA)

WHAT THEY’RE BEST AT: The Longhorns put the ball in play and force foes to field well. Texas has 177 strikeouts, nearly 80 fewer than their opponents (256).

HOW THEY CAN ADVANCE: The Longhorns are on a five-game winning streak. They outscored Iowa State in their most recent series 39-5. Getting that type of output would help Texas keep up with the power hitters of this regional.

FUN FACT: A UT legend goes if you see a white squirrel on campus on the way to an exam, you’re guaranteed to get an A.

No. 4 BOSTON UNIVERSITY

WHAT THEY’RE BEST AT: The Terriers have 38 errors, which ranks second in the regional to UL-Lafayette’s 36.

HOW THEY CAN ADVANCE: Russell was named MVP of the Patriot League tournament; she tossed a one-hitter in the title game against Army. The Terriers’ success will depend on Russell and Hynes being able to slow opposing offenses.
