Beginning Monday night, the westbound left lane of Interstate 10, from the Vermilion Bridge to the Louisiana Avenue Bridge, will be closed at night for hydro demolition until Sunday.

The closure is estimated to take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting, the state Department of Transportation and Development has announced.

Additionally, on Thursday and Friday, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. weather permitting, the north and southbound lanes of Louisiana Avenue will be closed under the I-10 overpass for hydro demolition over Louisiana Avenue.

The detour route for northbound and southbound traffic on Louisiana Avenue is as follows:

  • Northbound: Take I-10 eastbound to LA 328, then back to I-10 westbound to continue north on Louisiana Avenue.
  • Southbound: Take I-10 westbound to I-49, then back to I-10 eastbound to Louisiana Avenue to continue south.

The $124.7 million I-10 widening project will involve widening a 7.11-mile section from Interstate 49 to Breaux Bridge. The project will include pavement replacement within the existing lanes and the construction of one additional lane in each direction along I-10 from I-49 to LA 328 in Breaux Bridge.

The project began in May 2017 and is estimated for completion in fall 2019.
