A home at 875 N. 40th Street and two cars in the driveway were destroyed by a fire at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Baton Rouge Fire Department news release.

Firefighters responded to the fire and found the home completely engulfed in flames. Although firefighters tried several times to enter the home, they had to back out because of a possible roof collapse.

However, firefighters were able to prevent fire damage to an adjacent home.

Three people were living in the burning home, but no one was injured in the fire. The American Red Cross was called to help the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but investigators do not suspect foul play.
