Consumers should watch out for fraudulent automated calls from “the Connecticut Department of Labor” that ask targets for the last four digits of their Social Security number and their 16-digit debit card numbers, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

The tactic is known as a “phishing” scam, and some calls have targeted Unemployment Insurance claimants , a news release says .

Those who receive a suspicious call or have any questions can call the Workforce Commission Claim Center at (866) 783-5567.
