Detectives are searching for two people who shot and critically wounded a man in Napoleonville Thursday night as well as fired a stray bullet in a child’s bedroom, Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said in a news release.

The news release gives this account of the incident:

The shooting occurred at 8 p.m. on Railroad Avenue.

The victim was fighting with a group of people Wednesday and then encountered the same people on Thursday on Railroad Avenue.

Another fight started and the yelling escalated into two people pulling out guns and firing them.

The victim was struck twice and taken to Assumption Community Hospital by a friend. The victim was then transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital where he underwent surgery and is now in critical condition.

The shooting is under investigation.
