NEW ROADS - A 42-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Sunday night on La. 10 near La. 420 in Pointe Coupee Parish, according to a Louisiana State Police news release.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Jimmy Herring, 76, of St. Francisville, was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris east on La. 10 shortly after 7 p.m. when he drove into the intersection at La. 420, the release says.
Herman Weston Jr. of New Roads walked south across La. 10 in the intersection with La. 420 at the same time and was hit by the Toyota, the release says.
Troopers do not suspect alcohol played a factor in the crash but have submitted blood samples of Herring and Weston to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation, the release says.
