The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry is accepting applications for the 2011 Urban & Community Forestry Grant program through Feb. 21, according to a news release.
State Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain said $24,000 of federal matching funds has been made available for the 2011 program year and will be distributed through a competitive grants allocation process.
The department will award three grants for $8,000 each. Tree City USA recipients and first- time applicants shall be awarded bonus points in the scoring process.
The cost-share grant is for programs, projects, or activities not currently being funded and not intended to substitute for existing funding levels.
The program is geared toward establishing new and strengthening existing community forestry programs in Louisiana.
