The Zachary City Council is expected to approve an ordinance Tuesday night to create an economic development district in the proposed Americana commercial and residential development.

The district's governing board, the council members, also are expected to levy an extra 1-cent sales tax in the development and use part of the city's existing 2-cent sales tax to fund infrastructure projects in Americana.

Tuesday's meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the city's municipal building on Main Street.
