The East Baton Rouge Parish Recreation and Park Commission and the East Baton Rouge Parish school system will celebrate the grand opening of Woodlawn Neighborhood Park on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The ceremony at the park, 14939 Tiger Bend Road., will begin at 10 a.m., according to a BREC news release.

BREC and the school system entered a cooperative endeavor agreement in 2010 where the school system preserved a portion of land on the corner of Jones Creek Road and Tiger Bend Road for development as a park and recreation asset to the school and community.

Park improvements include a quarter-mile walking path and a picnic pavilion. BREC will maintain the park per the agreement. Also per the agreement, the school system will have exclusive use of the land from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, except when BREC will perform maintenance. BREC will have exclusive use of the land during daylight hours after regular school hours; weekends and every day during the summer, when school is not in session.
