Baton Rouge-based Amedisys Inc. has proven clinical excellence with its Speech-Language Pathology program, according to the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association National Outcomes Measurement System report for 2011.

The outcomes measurement system was developed to illustrate the value of speech-language pathology services provided to people with swallowing disorders, cognitive and memory impairments, and communication disorders.

The system uses Functional Communication Measures, a series of disorder-specific seven-point rating scales, to describe the change in an individual’s functional communication, swallowing, or cognitive/memory abilities over the course of treatment.

According to the 2011 outcomes data, Amedisys’ Speech-Language Pathology program met 70.9 percent of treatment goals, compared to the national home care industry average of 51.8 percent.
