A cyclist died after being struck in a hit-and-run collision Saturday night on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, police said.
Fredrick Harris, 49, of 3942 W. Brookstown Drive, was crossing the roadway on a bicycle in the 6900 block of Airline Highway around 7:30 p.m., said Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola in a news release.
Harris did not cross at an intersection, according to Coppola, and was apparently struck as he moved westbound by an older-model Pontiac traveling south on Airline Highway.
Traffic Investigators believe the Pontiac was green or blue with large wheels, Coppola wrote. The vehicle may have damage to the front passenger side bumper area, along with the hood and windshield, Coppola wrote.
Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to contact Traffic Homicide Investigators at 389-7819 or Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
