The East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce’s Athena Committee seeks nominations for its annual Athena Leadership Award and the Athena Young Professional Leadership Award. Deadline for submission of nominees for the Athena award is 4 p.m. Aug. 22 at the chamber offices at 118 West Hall Ave. Slidell. Deadline for submission of Athena Young Professional Leaders is at noon Sept. 13 at the chamber offices.

Athena Leadership Award nominees are those who demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession; provide valuable service to improve the quality of life for others in their community; and actively assist women in achieving their full leadership potential.

A nominee may represent either the private or not-for-profit sector. Previous Athena award recipients are not eligible for nomination; however, past nominees may be nominated again. There is no minimum or maximum age qualification that must be met by Athena nominees.

Athena __Young Professional Leadership nominees are emerging women leaders who meet the same criteria and must be 40 years of age or younger.

A selection committee will review all nominations and select the winner in each category.

Winners will be announced on Oct. 9 at the Chamber’s monthly luncheon. Both the nominee and the nominator are encouraged to make reservations to attend the luncheon as all nominees will be recognized.

The Athena Leadership Award celebrates exemplary leadership and is reflective of a quote by Plato, “What is honored in a country will be cultivated there.”

More than 6,000 recipients from the United States, Canada, China, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom have been honored with the Athena Leadership Award since the program’s inception in 1982.

Presented to leaders across professional sectors, the award’s rich history, international scope and focus on mentorship distinguish it as one of the most prestigious leadership awards to be given.

Nominators are encouraged to work closely with the nominee to complete her nomination. Nominations for the Athena Leadership Award must be submitted using a specified form and format.

Supporting documents such as articles and testimonials may be included with the completed nomination form. Responses must be typed.
