Carolyn Shelton, chef and ambassador for the River Road African American Museum, spotlights one of Louisiana's favorite dishes — gumbo. Gumbo is influenced by the many cultures of Louisiana and has the power to bring people together in both celebration and mourning.

True BR is a weekly video series that will examine the sights, sounds and tastes of Baton Rouge and its surrounding areas. By looking at the music, events and food that are loved by those in the city, one can get a true understanding of the culture of Baton Rouge and the diversity of its people.
