The annual LSU Student Art Show Competition and Exhibit, which will be on display Friday through Feb. 8, provides LSU students an opportunity to submit original artwork for a chance to win $2,400 in cash or gift certificate awards.
The show will be on display in the Union Art Gallery, according to an LSU news release.
The public is encouraged to visit the gallery to vote on their favorite student submission.
The piece with the highest number of votes will receive the popular vote award and automatically be entered into the juried show.
Three art professionals will judge the submissions and select works to be displayed in the juried show, which will run from Feb. 17 to March 11. The jurors include David Horton, professor of graphic design and painting at Nicholls State University; Dale Newkirk, professor of sculpture at Southeastern Louisiana University; and Ann Schwab, photographer and assistant chair of visual arts at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. An awards celebration honoring the selected artists will be held March 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Union Art Gallery, in conjunction with the opening of the LSU School of Art Faculty Art Show.
Visitors can park their vehicles at metered spacing in front of the LSU Student Union from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Free parking passes for visitors can be obtained at the Visitor’s Center at the corner of Highland Road and Dalrymple Drive from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
