The New York Fire Department has awarded a $13 million contract to Ferrara Fire Apparatus Inc. of Holden, La., for 13 100-foot-long ladders that mount on the rear of fire trucks.

Ferrara has built 41 of the rear-mount aerial ladders for the department’s fire trucks. The four-section ladder’s compact design is well-suited to the congested streets of New York, according to Ferrara.

Ferrara Fire Apparatus manufactures a full line of fire, emergency and rescue vehicles, as well as firefighter safety systems.
