The traditional 1950s home at 6254 Sevenoaks Ave. in Goodwood Estates is a bit deceiving at first glance. The front elevation shows a nice, well-kept home on a large lot. But when you actually walk through the property it doesn’t take long to realize you’ve arrived at a special place. When we walked through the foyer of this completely renovated home and turned left towards the kitchen, we caught a glimpse of the home’s outdoor space in back. The first words that came to mind were, “DANG! Look how nice this is!”

Consisting of more than a half-acre, it’s an immaculately landscaped outdoor space arranged in five sections: First in line is a brick and flagstone fountain courtyard, then there’s a fabulous air-conditioned cabana with an outdoor kitchen and living room, then comes a beautiful irregular shaped gunite pool with waterfalls, then a climate-controlled pool house, and behind that is a green space big enough for the kids to play ball. The whole show is visible through an L-shaped wall of glass lining the kitchen and breakfast room.

The cabana serves as a pass-through from the flagstone courtyard to the pool and points behind. Curtains on either side can be drawn to help keep the cool air in (for days like today). On the left side is the outdoor kitchen with a 48-inch DCS grill, an icemaker (for days like today), 3cm granite counter tops and a sink. On the right side is the outdoor living room with a painted brick wall containing a wide fireplace. The next area contains the pool, which has a round glass firepit with a fountain pouring into the pool and more water falling from a planter on the other side. The pool house in back has wood floors and a seasonal closet, and then there’s the back yard – long, wide and green.

The front of the home is also nicely landscaped, with a gravel driveway circling up to a brick walk up to the herringbone brick porch. Built in 1951, the home has been totally renovated, but the owners said they kept the home’s “good bones” in mind while performing the work, adding they “didn’t want to try to make the home into something it wasn’t.”

As a result, the home still has most of its original character, with a new look and a great outdoor space. Most of the flooring is travertine or wood, with carpet in some of the bedrooms.

The kitchen is big (22 x 15 feet), with a T-shaped two-level island with a wine refrigerator and a

The formal dining room on the other side of the foyer features the home’s original parquet wood floors and a bay window, while the living room on the back side of the foyer wall is wide and comfortable.

The living quarters are down an L-shaped hallway. There are three bedrooms plus the master, and two of the three bedrooms have full baths and French doors to the outside. There’s also an office/nursery along the way.

The large master suite has four sets of French doors – including two to the pool courtyard – and a huge travertine bath with a built-in dresser. Two vanities – hers with a makeup desk – are opposite a Bain Ultra Air Jet Tub and a walk-in shower. He has a nice closet with a dresser and she has a much longer closet with dressers and lots of shoe shelving. Actually, the whole home has a surprising amount of storage for a home built in the 50s.

And finally, when the electricity fails, it’s just for a few seconds. A whole-home generator kicks in to save the party. The owner says parties for 100 guests have been a breeze. There’s also a sprinkler system for the plants and a Buzz Off system for the bugs.
