Former Southern athletic director Floyd Kerr is one of three finalists to be the school's new athletic director, Southern announced Friday.

The other two candidates are Paula Jackson and John Robinson.

Kerr is currently the athletic director at Morgan State. Jackson is the assistant athletic director and senior woman administrator at Alabama State, while Robinson is the executive director of student academic enhancement services at Texas Southern.

Southern Chancellor James Llorens said in a statement released by the school that he hopes to make a decision before the end of the year. His choice would then have to be approved by the school's board of supervisors.

In a release from the school, Llorens said he is pleased with the finalists selected by a 10-person search committee formed in August.

The finalists will be interviewed, according to the release, but dates have not been set for those interviews.

Women's basketball coach Sandy Pugh has been the interim athletic director since May.

Greg LaFleur, who replaced Kerr, was fired in April after being arrested in Houston on a misdemeanor prostitution count.

Kerr served as Southern's athletic director from 2000 to 2005, and was a part of the powerful NCAA men's Division I basketball committee. The school's board decided not to renew his contract in February 2005. He has been at Morgan State since 2005.

A former Colorado State basketball player, Kerr was assistant basketball coach and assistant athletic director at Youngstown State from 1992-2000.

Jackson, a 1986 Southern graduate who also holds a master's degree in business administration from Clark Atlanta, previously served as associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at Mississippi Valley, athletic director at Lincoln University, director of compliance at Savannah State and assistant athletic director and director of marketing at Morehead State.

Before his current job at TSU, Robinson was the interim athletic director and deputy athletic director at the University of Houston from 2002-09. He was also the associate athletic director at Villanova from 1995 to 2002.

Robinson holds an MBA in management and marketing from Villanova, a law degree in business law from Tulane and a bachelor's degree in economics from Columbia.
