One man died and three people, including a police officer, were injured Thursday in a 3 a.m. fire at a duplex in Denham Springs, State Fire Marshal Butch Browning said.
The fire started at a duplex in the 400 block of Summers Street in Denham Springs, Browning said.
A male resident on one side of the duplex died in the fire while two sisters who lived on the other side managed to escape, Browning said.
A Denham Springs Police officer went inside the duplex during the blaze and rescued one of the two sisters, an elderly woman, Browning said.
The police officer was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation and the woman he saved was taken to a hospital where she in is listed guarded condition, Browning said.
The other sister suffered minor injuries, Browning said.
Browning said a cause of the fatal fire has not yet been determined and it is under investigation.
Browning did not release the names of any of the victims.
