One man was shot and killed and two others were shot and injured near the 1000 block of Central Road early Thursday morning, Baton Rouge police said.

Police were called to Central Road to investigate a report of shots fired at 12:40 a.m., according to a police news release.

When officers arrived they found an empty vehicle just north of Central Road in the 9700 block of Chinn Street that had been hit by gunfire, the release says.

Officers then found a second vehicle behind a house at 1060 Central Road that had also been hit by gun fire but had the body of Demond Stanford, 36, 2292 70th St. inside, the release says. Sanford was shot, the release says.

Around the same time, police received a call that two men at 999 Rosenwald Road had been shot and wounded , the release said. The two men, one 33 and the other 32, told police they had been shot on Central Road before running to Rosenwald Road, according to the release.

The men were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The 33-year-old man had critical injuries while the 32-year-old man was listed in good condition late Thursday morning.
