The city has received an additional $1.1 million in federal funding to help Baton Rouge develop a 2.7-mile greenway to connect downtown to LSU, Mayor Kip Holden said Tuesday.

The total for the project is $3 million from state and federal funds.

The greenway will connect seven BREC parks, with pedestrian walkways and bike paths, Holden said during Tuesday morning’s Downtown Development District Commission board meeting.

Commission Executive Director Davis Rhorer said the district has also been awarded an $886,000 grant for the first phase of a bike trailhead and access project at the levee at the end of Florida Street.
