Less than 48 hours after East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives found the bodies of two teens shot to death in the north Baton Rouge community of Glen Oaks, another fatal shooting occurred in the same area Wednesday night.
The fatal shooting Wednesday at 9:15 p.m. occurred in the 6000 block of Calion Drive, according to a Sheriff’s
Office news release.
The victim, 19-year-old Ira Bennett, Jr, 6256 Calion Drive, was walking outside when he was approached by two black men whom he knew, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said in the release.
The men then shot Bennett, Hicks said.
Deputies were in the area when they heard shots fired, Hicks said.
Two black men or teens were seen running away from the area before deputies found Bennett ‘s body on the ground, Hicks said.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
Calion Drive is just a few blocks away from East Fairlane Court and Maplewood Drive, the spot were deputies found the bodies of two teens who had been shot to death Tuesday morning.
Irise Blakes, 19, 6232 Flag St., and Carlton Alexander Smith, 18, 7726 Oak Arbor Ave., were gunned down just blocks away from their homes Tuesday.
Sheriff’s deputies were notified of the double shooting just before 2 a.m. by a gun detection system called Shotspotters, Hicks has said.
When deputies arrived, they found Blakes and Smith lying in the road, Hicks has said. Both teens died at the scene.
No arrests have been made in Tuesday’s shootings and no suspects have been named, Hicks said. No motive has been determined.
The Sheriff’s Office has not said if the fatal shootings on Tuesday are connected to Wednesday night’s homicide.
