Deputies capture 2 inmates, seek third
New Orleans — Orleans Parish sheriff’s deputies found two men Monday and continued to search for a third who escaped from the parish prison complex late Sunday.
Investigators captured Reginald Batiste, 25, about 10 a.m. in the 4900 block of Dreaux Street in Gentilly and found Domonique Battle, 22, about 10:38 a.m. in the 700 block of Majestic Street in Algiers.
On the run is Michael Washington, 51.
Deputies who conducted a security patrol of the perimeter of the temporary inmate tents about 9 p.m. found that the men cut the exterior of the tent in which they were housed and escaped through that opening.
In a prepared statement, Sheriff Marlin Gusman said the tents were “properly staffed” but did not explain how the escapes went unnoticed, nor did he say how long he believed the men had been gone before deputies discovered them missing.
Washington, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound black man, was booked Jan. 11 for possession of crack cocaine and a municipal attachment. He was being held on a $7,500 bond.
Batiste was booked April 24 on charges of possession of a firearm and distribution of crack cocaine and was being held on a $50,000 bond. Battle was booked Sunday on a charge of possession of marijuana, second offense. He was being held on a $5,500 bond.

Man dies from gunshot wound
New Orleans — A man died at a local hospital after he was shot early Sunday in the 7th Ward.
Police provided few details about the shooting that happened about 3:50 a.m. in the 1300 block of Columbus Street, saying only that the man was shot in the neck and the left chest area. Paramedics rushed him to Interim LSU Public Hospital, where he was in critical condition.
The man died about 5:45 a.m., said John Gagliano, the Orleans Parish coroner’s chief investigator.
The man’s identity was not yet known, Gagliano said.
Police ID man shot to death in Algiers
New Orleans — A man who was found shot to death Sunday morning in Algiers has been identified as Fernando Eyzaguirre.
Eyzaguirre, 27, of New Orleans, died in the 5100 block of Gen. DeGaulle Drive after someone shot him about 6:30 a.m., police said.
Eyzaguirre was shot multiple times in the face and back, said John Gagliano, the Orleans Parish coroner’s chief investigator.
Police have not released any information on a suspect or motive.
Two injured after gunfire on Sunday
New Orleans — Police are investigating two shootings that left two men injured Sunday afternoon.
The first shooting happened about 1:45 p.m. at North Galvez and Pauger streets.
The victim, a 17-year-old man, was standing on the corner when three unknown men opened fire on him, striking him several times.
The next shooting happened about 2:45 p.m at Abudance and Republic streets, police said.
Two men chased a 48-year-old man through the neighborhood before they shot him in the left arm.
Police did not provide conditions on either victim or descriptions of the gunmen.
Electronics property taken in robbery
New Orleans — Two men who carried handguns and wore Army fatigues broke into an Algiers home early Monday, handcuffed the residents and took their electronics, police said.
The men used a crowbar to force open a door of the home in the 2900 block of Sabine Street just after midnight, police said.
The robbers woke up the occupants, handcuffed them and demanded their cash and electronics.
The men fled with the money, a TV, VCR and DVD player.
Woman recovering from stab wound
New Orleans — A 28-year-old woman is recovering from a minor stab wound after she was cut Friday morning in Gert Town.
Police said the victim walked outside of a home in the 3100 block of Audubon Street about 11 a.m. and found an unknown man standing by her car. The victim walked up to the man and yelled at him to move, at which point he lunged at her and cut her left arm with an unknown object.
The victim was treated at released from a hospital.
Police did not provide a description of the man who cut the woman.
Argument escalates to stabbing incident
New Orleans — An argument between two friends Friday ended when one of them grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the other one in the hand, police said.
The incident happened about 11:45 a.m. at a home in the 10700 block of Roger Drive in eastern New Orleans.
Police said the victim, a 22-year-old woman, and her friend got into an argument. During the argument, her friend grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the left hand.
7th Ward accident victim identified
New Orleans — The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified a man who died late Friday during an two-vehicle accident in the 7th Ward.
Raymond Fletcher, 60, of New Orleans, died from neck and spinal injuries after his Chevrolet Trailblazer slammed into a Kia Optima about 8 p.m. at Annette and North Galvez streets, said John Gagliano, the coroner’s chief investigator.
Fletcher died at the scene. A man who traveled with him was injured and rushed to a hospital for treatment in critical but stable condition. Paramedics brought the driver of the Optima to the hospital in critical condition.
The accident remains under investigation.
Separate shootings leave two wounded
New Orleans — Police are investigating separate shootings that left two women wounded late Friday.
The first shooting happened about 9 p.m. outside of the Capri Motel in the 2400 block of Tulane Avenue.
Police said the victim, a 22-year-old woman was walking from the hotel office when someone in a car that drove down Tulane Avenue opened fire. The woman was struck in the upper thigh, according to a preliminary police log, and was in stable condition at a local hospital.
The second shooting happened about 11 p.m. in the 1600 block of Monroe Street.
Police said a 39-year-old woman was in a car that someone opened fire on.
The driver of the car in which the woman rode took her to a hospital, where doctors treated her for graze wounds to her lower abdomen and her thigh.
2 men take TV from Gentilly residence
New Orleans — Two men entered a Gentilly home Saturday morning and stole a TV from the residence.
Police said the burglars accessed a home in the 2400 block of Lavender Street about 10:30 a.m. and demanded a TV from a woman inside.
The woman let them take the TV, and the men left. Police did not provide a description of the men.
Six robbed in two separate incidents
New Orleans — Six people were robbed at gunpoint in two separate incidents early Sunday, police said.
The first robbery happened about 3:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of Thalia Street.
A 31-year-old man was approached from behind by an unknown man who carried a gun and demanded his property.
The victim handed over his wallet, watch and a diamond ring, at which point the robber ran away.
The second robbery happened about 4:20 a.m. near Cleveland Avenue and South Villere Street.
Five men were approached by two men who carried semi-automatic handguns and ordered the victims to hand over their property.
Police did not provide a description of any of the robbers.
