Tony Chachere’s Creole Foods of Opelousas Inc. announced Monday it has filed a federal lawsuit in Lafayette alleging that Big Easy Foods of Louisiana LLC is infringing on Chachere’s trademarks.

Big Easy Foods used to hold a license for some of Tony Chachere’s prepared and packaged food products. But after the agreement ended, Big Easy began competing with Tony Chachere, using nearly identical packaging.

Richard Lee, an attorney for Chachere, said Big Easy’s packaging violates state trademark infringement law and a federal unfair competition statute.
