An 18-year-old was shot during an armed robbery involving a hoverboard early Tuesday in New Orleans, police said.

Around 12:18 a.m., the 18-year-old was riding his hoverboard near North Claiborne Avenue and Canal Street in New Orleans when two suspects approached him to ask about the hoverboard, New Orleans police said in a preliminary offense log. One of the suspects allegedly pulled out a semi-automatic weapon and demanded the victim’s hoverboard and other property, police said.

The victim lunged at the gun and it discharged, striking the victim in the arm, police said. The suspects fled with the hoverboard, cash and a cellphone.

The victim walked to an area hospital, where he was being treated Tuesday, police said.
