Top-seeded University High of Class 3A and No. 2 Walker of Class 5A helped lead the way for the list of Baton Rouge teams that came away LHSAA bidistrict-round girls basketball playoff wins Thursday night.
Walker scored 53 first-half points en route to a 79-45 victory over No. 31 seed Airline High of Bossier City. U-High scored 20 or more points in all but one quarter, including 34 fourth-quarter points, in its 99-48 victory over No. 32 Bogalusa High.
Tyler Morrison scored a game-high 30 points to lead St. Michael to a 4A win over Plaquemine, while Pearl Jones and Lauri Kight powered 20th-seeded Northeast to an upset victory over Mamou in 2A.
UNIVERSITY 99, BOGALUSA 48: Mikayla Bates and Alanie Fisher combined to score 47 points for the defending 3A state champion Cubs (28-2) in the game played at UHS.
Bates finished with 24 points and Fisher added 23 to lead a quartet of double-figures scorers. Kaila Anderson (13) and Chelsea Verrett (11) were the other leaders for the Cubs, who’ll travel to play No. 17 seed Northwest in the Monday’s regional playoff round.
WALKER 79, AIRLINE 45: In Walker, Jamie Gibson scored a game-high 21 points, connecting on two 3-pointers, to help lead the Wildcats (28-5), a 5A quarterfinalist last season.
Casey Fountain added 18, while Keeona Brown (16) and Baylie Stears (14) helped WHS cruise to victory. Keri McCoy led Airline (21-8) with 12 points. Walker hosts No. 15 South Lafourche in the regional round.
ST. MICHAEL 55, PLAQUEMINE 38: At SMHS, Morrison tallied 30 points, including two 3-pointers, in the Warriors’ win over District 6-4A rival Plaquemine.
SMHS jumped out to a 12-2 lead over the Green Devils to open the game. Asia Nelson led Plaquemine with 18. The Warriors host Breaux Bridge in the regional round.
NORTHEAST 60, MAMOU 48: In Mamou, the Vikings (17-14) took control with a 19-11 second-quarter surge in 2A action.
Jones scored a game-high 22 points, while Kight added 18. Darelveray Bellarz led 13th-seeded Mamou with 20 points. The Vikings meet No. 29 Lakeview, a 61-51 winner of fourth-seeded Redemptorist, next.
BRUSLY 64, PORT BARRE 39: In Brusly, Maddie Laprairie scored a game-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the 13th-seeded Panthers (21-9) to a Class 3A win.
BHS raced out to a 20-8 lead after one quarter and never looked back. Caitlyn Williams added 19 for the Panthers of District 7-3A. Rona Hardy led Port Barre (17-10) with 17 points.
EAST FELICIANA 65, OAK GROVE 41: In Jackson, 16th-seeded EFHS had four players score in double figures in its Class 2A victory.
The Tigers (17-7) started the game with a 17-2 run. Trinity Jackson led EFHS with 17 points. Courtlin Bradford (14), Makayla Barton (11) and Tatanna Brown (10) were also part of the balanced attack that helped offset a game-high 27 points by Oak Grove’s Naja Meyers.
MADISON PREP 65, SACRED HEART-VP 33: Madison Prep outscored SHVP in all but one quarter of its Class 1A contest played at MPA.
Jasmine Polk finished with 18 points to pace the 11th-seeded Chargers (26-7) who will travel to White Castle for the regional round.
WHITE CASTLE 55, TENSAS 27: In White Castle, Skylar and Shylar O’Bear combined to score 37 points for the sixth-seeded Bulldogs (20-11).
Skylar O’Bear finished with 21 points, while Shylar O’Bear added 16.
