When it comes to weight gain, the number of calories a person consumes is more important than whether the food contains carbohydrates or protein, according to a Pennington Biomedical Research Center study that continues to draw media attention.

Some 139 news outlets, including USA Today, Fox News and Time.com, picked up the study results. An article on Time.com says that might seem obvious, but popular diets suggest that eating more or less of certain things, such as carbs and proteins, is the key to losing weight.

Pennington’s “clever study” shows it’s not what a person eats but how much that matters, the article says.
