Entergy Corp. said it sent 170 workers and 92 of its contractors in the Maryland area to help restore power knocked out by Hurricane Irene’s pummeling of the Eastern Seaboard.

The Entergy employees came from the company’s operations in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Texas.

The utility also said the operations of its nuclear plants in the area - Indian Point Energy Center in New York, Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Massachusetts and Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant in Vermont - were unaffected by the storm.
