The University of Louisiana at Lafayette begins a new tradition Sunday with a “new student convocation” scheduled for incoming freshmen at the Cajundome Convention Center, according to a university news release.
The event, held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., marks the “official beginning of the academic journey” for the new students, Paul Eaton, ULL’s orientation director, said in the release.
The fall semester begins on Monday and university officials have said they anticipate freshmen enrollment to exceed last year’s count of about 2,900 students.
Convocation speakers include: ULL President Joseph Savoie; Ryan Teten, a professor of political science; and Kylie Templet, president of the Student Government Association.
After the event, students will be treated to a cookout at Cajun Field as part of the university’s athletic Fan Day activities.
