State Sen. Norby Chabert, R-Houma, will deliver the keynote speech at the Nicholls State University 90th commencement May 12 in Stopher Gymnasium.

Ceremonies for the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Nursing and Allied Health and University College will start at 10 a.m., and ceremonies for the College of Business Administration and College of Education will begin at 2 p.m., according to an NSU news release.

Chabert, a 2001 government graduate of NSU, has represented District 20 since 2009.

Chabert serves on the following Senate committees: Commerce, Consumer Protection, and International Affairs; Finance (as vice-chairman); Judiciary B; Natural Resources; Coastal Restoration and Flood Control; Vocational and Technical Education (as chairman); and the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget.

Following Chabert’s address, Eugene Dial, Nicholls vice president for student affairs and enrollment services, will present the honors, and Allayne “Laynie” Barrilleaux, vice president for academic affairs, will present the candidates for the degrees.
