Shaw Group Inc. officials said Thursday its second-quarter profit for the three months that ended Feb. 29 increased sharply to $52.5 million, or 78 cents a share, from $1.2 million, or a penny a share, during the same time a year ago, MarketWatch reported Thursday.

Revenue increased to $1.5 billion from $1.4 billion. Excluding the company’s Westinghouse segment, Shaw earned 46 cents a share, in line with the forecast in a survey of analysts by FactSet Research.

Looking ahead, Shaw officials said they expect 2012 earnings, excluding Westinghouse, of $2.05 to $2.15 a share, compared to the estimate of $2.11 a share.
