The application deadline for the spring 2012 session of The Young Leaders’ Academy of Baton Rouge is Friday.

The Young Leaders’ Academy of Baton Rouge is a program of academic excellence, leadership skill development and personal development for African American boys in Baton Rouge, according to a news release.

In an effort to encourage positive relationships, the Academy requires family involvement in the boys’ activities with the program and offers mentors to the children who need them.

The criteria required for application is:

The student must have a 2.5 GPA in core subjects such as math, spelling, reading and language arts.

The student must be a third, fourth or fifth-grader who lives in the Greater Baton Rouge area.

Parents and applicants must attend a program orientation session.

Applicants meeting admissions criteria will be scheduled for an interview with the program’s executive director or program manager to discuss expectations.

Applicants need to bring or mail copies of the student’s report cards from kindergarten to the present, immunization records, birth certificate, test scores and proof of health insurance.
