Woman’s Hospital, with other hospitals nationwide, has launched an email campaign to rally supporters’ help in fending off billions in proposed federal budget cuts to health care.
The email directs people to a toll-free number, (866) 887-2273, for the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care, which in turn connects callers to their U.S. senators’ or congressmen’s offices.
Woman’s and other hospitals say the payments for providing care to Medicare and Medicaid patients don’t cover costs. In 2010, the Medicare and Medicaid payments Woman’s received for treating patients in those programs was $19 million less than the actual cost of care, the hospital said.
If Congress makes further cuts to health care budgets, Woman’s said it may have to end programs that help the underserved and underinsured.
