Detectives have booked a man involved in the fatal shooting of another man Tuesday morning on Helm Drive, according to an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office news release.

Fredrick Rady, 27, 1959 Helm Drive, was booked with convicted felon in possession of a firearm and illegal use of a weapon, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said in the release.

Detectives are still investigating and counts on Rady could be upgraded, Hicks said.

According to reports, Rady was in his home early Tuesday morning when he opened the door to two men. The man who was fatally shot, one of the two men, allegedly opened fire on Rady, Hicks said.

Rady then returned fire, hitting the man who later died, Hicks said. Another man, who was standing at the door, ran away, Hicks said.

Rady was shot in the leg, Hicks said.

A third man drove off in a vehicle. Detectives have not found the two men that fled the scene, Hicks said.

Detectives have a tentative identity on the man who died. He is believed to be from the New Orleans area but deputies are waiting on fingerprint confirmation, Hicks said.

The motive for the shootings is unclear at this time and the incident is still under investigation.
