Shaw Group-ExxonMobil Chemical Co. venture was awarded a contract for a bisphenol, or BPA, plant in China.

The value of contract was not disclosed.

The venture, known as Badger Licensing LLC, will provide proprietary technology and process design for a plant in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province. The plant will be able to produce 66,000 tons of BPA a year. The new plant is scheduled to begin operation in 2013 and is part of a chemical complex owned by Proper Year Petrochemical Co. Ltd.

BPA is used in hard plastics, such as water bottles, and the lining of cans.

Badger Licensing LLC, headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., markets, licenses, and develops technologies for plastics.
