Baton Rouge police have arrested a man accused of trying to rob a motorist at gunpoint and then shooting him in the back, according to an arrest warrant.

Kartez McKneely, 19, 1095 Darryl Drive, was booked Thursday with attempted first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery, booking records show.

According to the warrant, the incident occurred on Jan. 29 at 9:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the Eden Point Apartments.

McKneely allegedly approached the victim while he was in a vehicle, knocked on the window with a gun and told the victim to "give it up," according to the warrant.

The victim then backed out of the parking spot and drove away, the warrant says .

McKneely also is accused of firing several shots at the back of the vehicle while the victim was driving away, the warrant says, and one bullet hit him in his back.

The victim later identified McKneely in a photo lineup, according to the warrant.
