Plains All American Pipeline LP said it is moving forward with a $50 million expansion that will add 1.2 million barrels of crude oil storage at the St. James terminal facility.

The work is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2012. The latest project will bring total storage capacity at St. James to 8.3 million barrels. It’s the third time Plains has expanded the facility since completing it in 2007.

The facility next to the Mississippi River also includes a barge and ship dock, which can take in shipments of crude oil and condensate. The dock will be able to load barges by the end of the year. The facility is also directly connected to a crude oil rail terminal, where work is under way to double the offloading capacity to 130,000 barrels per day.
