This week is Passenger Safety Week and the Louisiana State Police is reminding and encouraging all parents and caregivers to take advantage of child safety seat check events taking place statewide on Saturday, according to a news release.

All Louisiana troops are child seat inspection and fitting stations.

Research shows car seats save lives. When properly installed and used they can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for children younger than one year old and by 54 percent for children between a year old and 4 years old. Unfortunately, nearly three out of four car seats are not used properly, the release says.

“Louisiana troopers are committed to working closely with our partners and other safety advocates to help parents make the kind of choices that will keep kids safe,” State Police Col. Mike Edmonson said in the release.

Please contact your local troop for times and appointments. To locate additional inspection stations in your area, please go to or for troop information.
