DeAngelo’s is known for its pizzas, calzones and pasta dishes … not exactly diet food. Most items on the menu here are filled with a variety of cheeses and meats - bleu cheese and parmesan, pepperoni and sausage, not to mention delicious cream and tomato sauces.

But the menu also features fresh, tasty salads, according to Paul Barrial, general manager of the Bluebonnet location. Probably the lightest salad, and one of the most popular, is the DeAngelo Salad, he said.

“It’s a good choice because of the dressing,” Barrial said. “It’s a homemade Italian vinaigrette. The salad features baby mixed greens, Calamata olives, slices of red onion, pepperoncini and gourmet mozzarella cheese.”

And of course, like all the other DeAngelo salads, it can be paired with a cup of soup and a slice of garlic bread for a light, but delicious “soup and salad” lunch.
