A Gramercy man died after he was ejected from a motorcycle Tuesday night during a pursuit with police from St. John the Baptist Parish to St. James Parish.

State Police troopers responded to the fatal crash on La. 3213 just east of La. 3127 in St. James Parish, according to a state police news release.

Investigating troopers said a Suzuki motorcycle was traveling northbound on La. 3127 just inside the St. John Parish line. An on duty St. John Parish Sheriff’s Officer clocked the motorcycle speeding at 82 mph in a 55 mph zone. The officer attempted to stop the motorcycle, at which time the motorcycle increased speed to over 120 mph.

The motorcycle then continued into St. James Parish. While on La. 3213, the motorcycle failed to negotiate a hard right curve and ran off the road, the release says.

The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 47-year-old Curtis Nicholson, was ejected from his motorcycle in the crash, the release says.

Although Nicholson was wearing a helmet, he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.

Troopers report that alcohol impairment is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
