State Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain has announced the appointment of retired State Police Lt. Col. Dane Morgan as assistant commissioner of management and finance.
“Dane Morgan is highly qualified to assume the assistant commissioner position in our Office of Management and Finance,” Strain said in a department news release. “He brings to the job a diverse background and experience that will benefit the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.”
Morgan, a Baton Rouge native, most recently served as chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. Prior to his appointment as chairman, he served 26 years with the Louisiana State Police.
During his career at Louisiana State Police, he ascended through the ranks to become the first commander of the Casino Gaming Division. He served in this capacity until his promotion to command inspector over the Support Services Section supervising Crime Lab Operations, Bureau of Criminal Records, fleet operations and general support services for the office of State Police.
Morgan later was appointed to deputy superintendent of the Bureau of Investigation supervising the Criminal Investigations Section, Criminal Intelligence Operations, Narcotics Section, and the Gaming Enforcement Division. Morgan subsequently advanced to chief of staff for the office of State Police.
