A 28-year-old Independence woman was killed Monday night in Tangipahoa Parish after the pickup she was driving ran off the road and overturned several times, according to a Louisiana State Police news release.
Glavis Garcia, who was not wearing a seat belt, died after she was ejected from her truck, the release says.
The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. on La. 442, some 2.5 miles west of Interstate 55.
Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed Garcia was traveling west on La. 442 in a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck when the vehicle drifted off road to the right. As Garcia attempted to reenter the roadway, she overcorrected to the left and then back to the right, causing the pickup to rotate clockwise and overturn several times.
The front-seat passenger in the pickup, 26-year-old Juan Hernandez, and an infant passenger, both of Independence, were properly restrained and received minor injuries in the crash, according to the release.
