The LSU University Recreation will host the 2011 Bayou Bouldering Bash climbing competition at 9 a.m. Saturday at the LSU Student Recreation Center.

The climbing competition is open to the LSU community and the general public. The cost is $20 for full-time LSU students and UREC members, and $25 for nonmembers, according to an LSU news release.

Beginner, intermediate and advanced divisions will be available, with men’s and women’s categories in each division. Each individual will have two hours to complete as many routes as possible on the climbing wall. Each route will be worth a certain number of points and will be scored by judges. Prizes will be awarded to the top two finishers in each division and category.

“We are extremely excited to be bringing back a climbing competition to LSU,” said UREC Adventure Coordinator Chris Bullard. “The event will be a great way for climbers to get together and try their hand at some new routes. As the climbing community continues to grow in Baton Rouge, it is events like these that will help to create a sense of community.”

Those interested may pre-register Friday at the UREC Student Recreation Center or by calling (225) 578-8601. The first 50 competitors to register will receive a free T-shirt.
