Registration is still open for Southern University’s Alvin Batiste Jazz Institute Summer Jazz Camp for high school students Monday through Friday, June 20-24, in the Recital Hall of the Debose Music Building on campus.

The camp, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will provide an informative, fun and supportive environment where young musicians can study and play their instruments with motivated peers and a prestigious faculty of musicians and educators.

Students will focus on improvisation, ear training, rhythm and horn sections and small ensemble playing.

There will also be a performance by the faculty and students at the end of the camp.

This year’s faculty will include Summer Jazz Camp director Harry Anderson Sr., bass and rhythm section; assistant director, Herman Jackson, percussion and rhythm section; lead clinician, Bill Summers; Michael Esneault, piano and rhythm section and Donald Evans, horn section.

The deadline to submit an application is Monday, June 20. the camp fee is $150.
