The Music Club of Baton Rouge will present guest artist Matthew Lipman in a viola recital on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Pianist Louis Wendt will accompany Lipman at the 10:30 a.m. performance at the Woman’s Club, 259 East Blvd., Baton Rouge. The event is free and open to the public.
Lipman was one of the National Federation of Music Club’s 2015 National Young Artist Award winners. His program will include works by Franz Schubert, Cesar Frank and Garth Knox. He has been hailed by The New York Times for his “rich tone and elegant phrasing” and by The Chicago Tribune for his “splendid technique and musical sensitivity.”
Lipman’s engagements as soloist have included the Juilliard and Minnesota orchestras, Grand Rapids Symphony, Wisconsin Chamber, Ars Viva Symphony, Montgomery Symphony, Capital City Symphony and Southwest Symphony.
He has also been featured as a recitalist in the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., the ShortGrass Festival in New Mexico, and in halls across America including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, Alice Tully Hall and the Morgan Library in New York.
His debut recording of the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante with violinist Rachel Barton Pine, Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields was released by Avie Records in January 2015 to critical acclaim and was No. 3 on the Billboard Classical chart.
