Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra’s 67th season, “Explorers and Discoveries,” brings another year of musical variety to Louisiana’s capital city.

The 2015-16 Masterworks series consists of five classical concerts and the seasonal favorite “Home for the Holidays” concert.

The first concert on Friday, Sept. 25, begins at 5:30 p.m. with the Opening Night Gala at the downtown Hilton, followed by the concert at 8 p.m., featuring pianist Jonathan Biss, in the Baton Rouge River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts.

The Lamar Chamber Series presents four concerts this season, featuring guest artists performing side-by-side with the symphony’s musicians in an exploration of chamber music that spans hundreds of years of musical idioms.

Finally, the Pops Series has grown in popularity in recent years, featuring three family-oriented concerts, each offered as a matinee or evening performance.

This year, the symphony will celebrate the holiday season with “Home for the Holidays,” showcasing the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra Chorus and a wide range of local talent. A Pixar in Concert is also in the lineup, presenting a cinematic journey of Pixar’s most famous films accompanied by the live orchestra.

The final concert in this series will be a “Country Roots” program featuring a special guest artist.

Also, the 14th annual Irene W. and C.B. Pennington Foundation Great Performers in Concert series is set for Friday, May 13.

This is the most anticipated concert of the season, and the name of the 2016 Great Performer will be announced on opening night.

Other special events include the fourth annual Symphony Pops at LSU Rural Life Museum, Mozart on the Lake and the Lamar Holiday Brass at St. Joseph Cathedral.

Season tickets are on sale, and the symphony offers options for patrons to personalize their season.

Savings of up to 60 percent are available for ticket packages that feature one or more series selected from the Masterworks Series, Lamar Chamber Series and Pops Series. Single tickets also are available.
