The Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre, under the direction of Molly Buchmann and Sharon Mathews, announces auditions for its new contemporary group, The Ensemble, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Dancers’ Workshop, 10745 Linkwood Court.
The Ensemble will provide performing opportunities for professional dancers age 18 and older, focusing on modern and contemporary works. The group will work with the ballet company’s choreographers, including Mina Estrada, to perform throughout the city during its 2014-15 season, as well as at a studio concert in the spring.
The Ensemble also will perform a selected work alongside ballet theater members at the company’s main stage spring performance, “Beyond Ballet,” on April 17.
Dancers auditioning should have training in both ballet and modern idioms at an advanced level.
Dancers should bring headshot and résumé to the audition, which will include an advanced modern/contemporary class. Pointe work will not be required.
Also, the ballet company will conduct open auditions for advanced dancers for its 2014-15 season on Saturday, Sept. 27, as well as children’s auditions for “The Nutcracker — A Tale from the Bayou” on Sunday, Sept. 28, at Dancers’ Workshop.
Season auditions will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 27. This audition is for classically trained advanced level dancers who have been on pointe for at least two years and will perform in “The Nutcracker,” “Beyond Ballet” and community outreach programs and other performances. Auditions for Party Parents for “The Nutcracker” will take place at 1 p.m. Sept. 27.
Children auditioning for “The Nutcracker” must be 8 years old by Dec. 31. Audition times are:
? Noon-12:45 p.m. boys ages 8 and older.
? 1-1:30 p.m. girls age 8.
? 2-2:45 p.m. girls age 9.
? 3:15-4 p.m. girls age 10.
? 4:30-5 p.m. girls ages 11-12.
