The LSU School of Theatre presents the 2016 Spring Dance Concert at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in the Claude L. Shaver Theatre in the LSU Music and Dramatic Arts Building, Dalrymple Drive.
The concert features choreography by Sandra Parks, head of dance, and student choreographers who have been mentored by Parks.
This concert showcases the creativity of the LSU Dance Ensemble and different collaborations with the LSU School of Music and LSU College of Art and Design.
“Reflection” is a multimedia piece created by Parks with faculty and students from the Composition Studio, Experimental Music and Digital Media Studio, Graphic Design and Digital Arts. The work is inspired by Chinese calligraphy and a poem from eighth-century China.
“Us,” also choreographed by Parks to the music of Steve Reich, focuses on movement creation and the relationship of the dancers to each other.
Five student choreographers have been investigating and exploring their own creative processes to present work inspired by the creations of Edvard Munch, the discovery of a journalist Nellie Bly about the truth behind Blackwell’s Island, dissociative identity disorder, among others.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling (225) 578-3527 or visiting theatre.lsu.edu.
